Yi Smart Cam with SecuritySpy
Hi, I got a trial copy of SecuritySpy and I have about 5 cams I got from a friend in China. The cams seems to be streaming MPEG-4 part10, I can get them to show up on Quicktime & VLC adding some codecs but nothing on SecuritySpy, I am right to believe that the software probably does not support the compression on these cams?
Thanks for any help.
Thanks for any help.

MPEG-4 Part 10 is H.264, and SecuritySpy does support H.264.
Can you tell me exactly how you are getting the cameras working in QuickTime and VLC? What URL are you using for the video stream?
If the cameras are ONVIF-compatible, have you tried the ONVIF profile in SecuritySpy? -

I use a RTSP stream @: rtsp://192.168.1.x:554/ch0_0.h264 and paste on network url on software to stream.

I do not believe that they are ONVIF compatible.
This is the camera (site is just a reseller that shows up in english, original manufacturer is in Chinese):

Hi - in that case the setting in SecuritySpy is as follows:
- In the Video Device Settings window, create a new network device.
- Set the device type to "Manual configuration”.
- Enter the camera's IP address but leave the Port field empty.
- Enter the camera’s username and password
- Select "RTSP TCP” from the Format menu.
- Enter ch0_0.h264 as the Request
Does this work for you? -
Hi Ben,
Thanks for your reply. I did set it up like that and it does not work. I was able to get all the cams running with a different software trial but I would rather use securityspy if im available to get it running.
When using does settings I get the double arrow as if it was trying to connect but nothing happens. -
I'm confident that we will be able to get this working for you. So that we can look into this further, please can you email us the following files:
- The "Log" file that you will find in the SecuritySpy folder within your Documents folder.
- A screenshot of the Video Device Settings window, showing the camera's setup. To capture a screenshot, press command-shift-4 and select the area you want to capture. A file called "Screen shot" will appear on your desktop.
- Bring SecuritySpy to the front and press the space bar three times - a file called "SecuritySpy Debug Info" will appear on your desktop.
Thanks. -
Will do. thank you

Done, sent email with files

With VLC and Sighthound Video everything works fine, are anybody listening?

Hello, sorry we haven't been able to resolve this. I've had a look over all the information provided for everyone who has tried to connect to this camera, and it seems that SecuritySpy simply cannot decode the stream provided by this camera. The RTSP request is correct, and the camera is streaming some data to SecuritySpy, but SecuritySpy cannot interpret it or find any video frames. There is no fix or workaround at the moment, but if we find one I'll post it back to this thread.

hello! not sure if i'm responding to an old post or something more recent. date on last post just has month/day but no year, but here goes.
i'm trying to get my Xaiomi Yi cam working. Your software really looks like one of the best options on the market so I'd love for it to work. By putting a slash "/" in front of the request value so that it's "/ch0_0.h264" i'm able to get something from the video feed. Seems so close but not there yet. More like some crazy oversaturated van gogh painting than a camera feed.

I am in the same boat - works okay with other software, but sadly not SecuritySpy....Ben, can you think of anything that would be stopping this?
