Instant video replay buffer size

Hi, I'm wondering what a reasonable setting would be for the replay buffer? Say I have four cameras at 20fps. Can I set the replay buffer to 15 seconds at 15fps without eating up too much RAM or CPU? I'm on a 2019 i9 iMac.

  • Yes, this sounds reasonable, though duration is probably more important than frame rate here so you might prefer something like 22s at 10fps . If you set the buffer settings unusually high, you'll get a warning triangle pop up that will warn you of memory usage and will give you feedback about how much RAM will be required. If you don't get a warning triangle, it means that the amount of memory required for the buffer is below 1 GB and on your machine you shouldn't have to worry about this if you have a reasonable amount of RAM (e.g. 16 GB or more).

The buffer barely uses CPU so you don't have to worry about that.

  • Great, that's very helpful. Thanks!
