Email Alert for Missing Storage Location

Is it possible to be notified via email if SecuritySpy loses the volume it is configured to write the video files to?

I just experienced a perfect storm of events which highlighted an issue that I'm unable to find a good adjustment for. I've got a location that is setup with SS writing to a NAS. That NAS has been extremely reliable and I'm still trying to track down what exactly caused the disconnect.

Anyway, the issue played out like this:

  • smb share disconnected
  • SS failed over to local storage which only has a capacity great enough for just over one day
  • I was notified by my remote monitoring app when the Mac reported having less than 10 GB free storage
  • I manually intervened, reconnecting the share

The problem I ran into is that the monitoring app I use doesn't let me adjust the notification threshold of "amount of free space." It wasn't until I had already started losing recorded footage that I was notified of a problem.

TL;DR: Is there a notification I can enable for SS that notifies about the storage volume failing over to local when lost? If not, I'd love to make a feature request for it.

  • I did just find the "Usage warning threshold" setting in Storage and that may meet this need, but it's not the same thing as being notified when the attached volume is no longer detected. I'm still not sure if that's a possibility that I'm not seeing. :-) Thanks.

  • Under Settings > Email you'll find a section titled System Emails. These are automated emails that SecuritySpy sends to you, and one of the options here is to receive error reports. So enter your email here, and if you only want to be notified of the most important errors (including when a storage location goes offline), set this to "Critical Errors Only".
