Advice on adjusting "Audio delay for movies"?

With a M1 Pro based MacBook Pro I am having audio / video synchronization problems with my ezcap 321 USB attached capture device. On a short record of 5-6 minutes the audio and video sync is off just enough to notice it. The synchronization gets worse when capturing longer sources, such as a full 60 minutes when it's multiple seconds out of sync.

At this point it's unclear how to select a good millisecond value for the "Audio delay" settings, and my attempts at guessing have been totally unsuccessful. Is there a better way to determine what the "correct" value is?

I did try OBS 28.1.2 and it records 60+ minute files with correct audio/video synchronization, so I don't think this is some type of hardware problem with the ezcap device. Any ideas how to get the correct Audio Delay setting?

  • The "audio delay" setting is the solution when you have a fixed difference between video and audio timing. However, it won't help if the timing drifts throughout the recording. SwiftCapture should be automatically correcting for this, but there must be some reason why this isn't working in your case. Are you able to send us one of these video files for analysis so that we can see if we can locate the problem and modify SwiftCapture to provide a fix? If so, please use wetransfer.com to send the file to us at support@bensoftware.com. Could you also let me know the route that the audio is taking - is this coming in to the ezcap device via HDMI, or is this coming in via the Mac's own audio input, or some other route?

  • Will do!

Audio is via HDMI to the escape . Installed on the MacBook Pro is Rogue Amoeba's SoundSource and Audio Hijack which are the only third-party software packages that could impact the audio. SoundSource runs continually, but Audio Hijack is NOT running while using Swift Capture.
