File compression before server uploads?
  • I am testing another instance of SecuritySpy (SS) in a remote location served only by satellite link.

I would like to know if it's possible to force an image-file compression before server SFTP upload. This would be beyond changing JPEG parameters.

workflow: SS condition causes image to be captured. image(s) written to SS server disk ( somewhere ). image is compressed using OS tools. Image is uploaded.
  • SecuritySpy saves JPEG images, which are already very efficiently compressed. There is basically no way to further compress these images without losing quality. You can try it yourself with zip, which is a lossless compression format (right-click on the file in the Finder and select the Compress option) - you'll end up with a .zip file of approximately the same size (sometimes even larger!).
