Video Codec Test
A free utility that benchmarks the video
encoding/decoding capabilities of your Mac
This utility measures the video processing capabilities of your Mac, providing benchmarks for H.264, H265, JPEG and ProRes encoding and decoding performance.
Before running this utility, make sure to quit all other applications that do video processing or use significant CPU.
When prompted, please agree to share the test results with us - this is anonymous and helps us gather data to improve our products and maintain our SecuritySpy System Requirements Calculator.
Then, with the H.264 and H.265 test suite selected, click Run All Tests In Suite, and let the app run through each of these tests in turn, which will take around 8 minutes in total. This will help us gather useful data - we thank you in advance for doing this!
Otherwise, there are a number of different options to choose from, including resolution (2K or 4K), codec (H.264, H.265, JPEG, ProRes) and processing location (CPU/software, internal hardware, eGPU).
Each test lasts 15 seconds and will stop automatically. The main benchmark is the Throughput number, which indicates how many video frames your Mac is capable of processing per second under the conditions of the test.
Processing is done via multiple background threads. The number of threads is chosen automatically to optimise performance and provide maximum real-world performance metrics.
