Remote access with lower quality

I record continuously and take AI captures. As I am recording at a high resolution and fps, the human capture files are large (e.g. 50mb - 125mb).

Whilst this is fine when accessing SS over my LAN, it means remote access is very slow and laggy.

I therefore want to reduce the resolution and fps for remote access only. I have created another user and set the streaming frame rate to 5fps and the streaming resolution limit to 0.3mp, and then login for this user in the SS iPhone app. I think this works for the live view, but it doesnt appear to work for the captures (the file sizes still show as large).

Am I doing something wrong?

Thanks

  • Hi Richard, the streaming rate/resolution limits you mention are for live streaming only, not captures.

The setting you want is on the iPhone: open the Settings app, and scroll down to the SecuritySpy settings panel. Here you will find an option for "High-Quality Movies", which you can set to "Off" or "Wi-Fi Only".

When a low-quality movie is requested, there may be a short delay, while it is generated dynamically on the server from the source file, but then it should load quickly. Note also that these low-quality movies are limited in size, frame rate, and duration, and have no audio.

I hope this does what you want. Otherwise, you could consider reducing the frame rate and encoding quality settings on the camera so that the source files are smaller (keep resolution set to maximum though). VBR encoding (as opposed to CBR) is also useful here to minimise file size.

  • Thanks for this Ben. I have a play with the app settings.
