Camera setting to avoid rain

I have a Reolink camera set up to email a picture of any motion over night. The problem is whenever it rains I get 100's or even a thousand emails with a picture.

Settings:

Motion and Action Triggers: Human , Vehicle and Animal all checked

Advanced trigger options:

The first two check boxes are checked - the third is not

Motion trigger duration set at 2.5 seconds

Both Motion and Audio detections set at 40

AI object detection thresholds all set at 65

Any recommendations to avoid all my emails due to rain?

Thanks

  • I got kind of the same issue only with heavy Fog, I got my outdoor cam set to motion detection, and it just keep recording as long as the Fog last

  • I can just tell you that I have a script that runs every 5 minutes. One of the things it checks for is if it's raining at my location (according to an online weather service) and if the IR light is on, the script will turn down Security Spy's Motion Detection sensitivity to 55. Once the rain stops, it turns it back up to 90.

  • Hi @duss do you by any chance have a stationary vehicle (or something that looks like a stationary human or animal, like a statue), in this camera's frame?

Normally, the AI will be able to filter out 98-99% of these false-positive detections, except in the case where there is a stationary object of interest (like a vehicle) in the frame. If this is the cause of this problem, you will have to turn off vehicle detection for this camera.

The other thing to do would be to mount separate IR lighting at some distance from the camera, and turn off the camera's built-in IR lighting. The LEDs in the camera will brightly illuminate rain/snow/fog/bugs immediately in front of the camera, causing a great deal of movement - this is very difficult for a software algorithm to deal with effectively. Separate IR lighting will not only fix this problem, but will better illuminate the scene, giving you improved image quality at night.
