Camera time-out

Hey folks, anyone know offhand what SSpy uses as a timeout for camera interaction?

I have a new Hikvision ColorVu DS-2CD2387G2p ( a nice dual turret camera ) which keeps causing SSpy to toss errors. However it's being watched by SmokePink and the camera isn't going dark.

My thought is to tweak up the timeout, if possible, to avoid the error messages and the SSpy webserver lockup.

hi ho!

  • When the camera isn't responding (either a lack of response to a connection attempt, or if it suddenly stops sending data mid-stream), SecuritySpy waits for up to 20 seconds before giving up and closing the connection. Subsequently, SecuritySpy will continually try to reconnect until the camera responds.

This timeout value is already quite generous, and increasing it won't help - if the camera isn't responding within this time, this indicates a camera problem or a network problem. The best thing to do here are:

    1. Make sure the network connection to the camera is as reliable as possible. This means wired Ethernet (for both Mac and camera) into a quality Gigabit-speed network switch if possible.
    2. Make sure the camera is running the very latest firmware offered by the manufacturer.
  • ah, 20 seconds is rather generous.

Camera has updated firmware, and replaced a 10yo Axis cam which didn't have any throughput issues. hmm. will continue. everything is wired.

I notice that if I simply refresh the SSpy's webserver's window for the camera everything is hunky dory. ( by that I mean the feed resumes ) I may need to cron a curl.
