Any plans to support NDI cameras

I think I asked this a couple of years ago but worth asking again. Are there any plans to support the NDI protocol for cameras. Or alternatively (as my real interest is using an iPhone as a camera that is supported by SS) is there any support for any iPhone camera apps such as Camo

  • I'm not ruling it out, however we are unlikely to support NDI directly, for the following reasons:

    • The industry-standard protocol for CCTV applications is RTSP. By contrast, NDI is used primarily for broadcast and live production.
    • Apple chips lack any kind of hardware-accelerated processing capabilities for the NDI codec, and macOS lacks a software NDI decoder. While it would be possible to add support using the SDK that is available from from NewTek (the creators of NDI), this would be a significant amount of work, and because it's a software decoder, it would use significant CPU resources.

It is possible to use your iPhone as a camera input to SecuritySpy - please see our blog post Using an iPhone or iPad as a CCTV Camera. The Camo app doesn't seem to have the required features (specifically RTSP streaming), but some other apps do, including the ones mentioned vis this link.

  • Thanks, that's great, it doesn't have to be NDI.

  • Rather belatedly but I've just tried both the apps recommended. Live-Reporter I found incredibly laggy compared with NDI. The other one IP Camera Lite was rather complex to setup and I failed to do it.
