CAM1 / Cameras / Actions / Trigger other cameras: / [x] CAM2 (v6)

Should motion detect at CAM1 always trigger CAM2 recording? Even if CAM2 motion detect is currently (daytime) disabled (CAM1 24/7 and CAM2 Sunset-Sunrise) but CAM2 Trigger Actions 24/7. The manual says

Trigger other cameras

This setting allows you to trigger recording in one camera based on a motion trigger in another.

 What am I missing?

  • If CAM1 is set to trigger CAM2, then what actually gets triggered does depend on the schedules set for CAM2. Motion capture will be triggered in CAM2 only if it is currently armed, based on the schedule that is set for that mode.

Note that "trigger other cameras" is an Action from the point of view of CAM1, and therefore for this to work, CAM1 must have its Actions mode armed.

  • Thanks. It does trigger when the schedule is armed.

We were looking to have CAM2 (yard plus parking) only armed Sunset-Sunrise to reduce the number of noise recordings during the day (us wandering about the yard) BUT ALSO be triggered when CAM1 (driveway) triggers (two angles ... yard plus parking ... as well as driveway) during the day, with both triggering after sunset.

    Perhaps a 'CAM1 / Cameras / Actions / Trigger motion always: / [x]CAM2'

    C'est la vie.

  • I would suggest simply arranging for enough storage to be able to record all motion from this camera, with the schedule set to Armed 24/7. You don't want to miss any potentially useful events in the daytime (even if most of them will be you wandering around), and storage these days is cheap.

  • Agreed Ben. Storage *is* cheap. However I was intending to try and minimise 'noise' triggers on one of the cameras. I go through the previous day's recordings each morning (concentrating on those overnight) which (most of the time) is a nugatory activity. The entire arrangement is working well as-is so this was just an imagined optimisation. Thanks again.

PS. pleased to see Reolink make it onto the supported profiles. They seem functional and reliable.
