V 5.5.8 frame rates

After upgrading to 5.5.8, I'm seeing a significant improvement in frame rates.

My network is primarily connected via an Eero mesh system, and is six SV3C cams plus a Dahua doorbell.

I have all cams set at 10 FPS, and until this update had been accustomed to seeing 3 or 4 of the cams with the best connections reporting 10/10, with the rest reporting various frame rates, sometimes well under 10/10.

Immediately after installing 5.5.8, I began seeing 10/10 on all my cams, and seeing a much more fluid "live" look through all the cams.

Of course, there have been recent Eero updates, and Mac OS updates, too, but this noticeable frame rate improvement seems to have shown up right after this SS upgrade, so I thought I'd mention it here.

  • Great to hear that, thanks for the feedback. There was a specific improvement in v5.5.8 related to video display: previously, SecuritySpy would only queue a new frame for display if the the previous frame had completed rendering. This resulted in dropped frames sometimes when two frames arrive in quick succession. In v5.5.8, a buffer was added that allows the queuing of multiple frames at a time for display. This allows the GPU to schedule its work efficiently, and can result in significantly smoother display.

  • Also can confirm!

  • 14 months and several updates later...

All my cams are now consistently operating at 15 FPS.

Most are WiFi via physical connections to eero repeaters.

eero continues to evolve, as does OS X and Security Spy, which is now at 6.4.

The Dahua doorbell has been pegged at 10 FPS ever since I added it to my system. It's the one cam I have that uses just WiFi, with no physical connection, as the doorbell lacks ethernet capability.

I've had the cam itself set at 15 FPS all along, but it wouldn't ever actually exceed 10 FPS in the stream it was sending.

The latest eero update (7.5.0-2654), installed a few days ago, finally got it done.
