iPhone Playback Time Skip
When playing back video within Captures, the SecuritySpy app on the iPhone only has a 5-second skip forward icon. Would it be possible to consider adding more skip options in a future release please? A 15-second skip forward and backward icon would be very useful, or at the very least a 5-second skip backwards as well please?
Thanks.

The problem is that there isn't must space for the transport controls on the iPhone, so multiple skip controls aren't really viable. 5s was chosen as a reasonable amount, considering the relatively short duration of most motion-capture files, but I understand that this isn't always going to be the optimum amount for everyone in every situation. We will consider adding a setting in a future update for the user to specify the skip amount, if we see that there is demand for this.
Yeah, I agree that there isn’t room for more transport controls when viewing in portrait, but perhaps a skip back button could appear only when viewing video in landscape mode where there’s more room?
Being able to specify a skip forward/backward value would be really handy. I was having to skip forward 5 seconds at a time through a 2hr continuous video to look for specific events because the bandwidth wasn’t fast enough for manual scrubbing. 15 seconds would have been more useful in this case.
I'd very much like for there to be a skip back button. Wasn't it there previously?
I certainly see the utility here and we will definitely consider this for a future update.
Didn’t the previous version of the app have both a forward and backward button for 10 seconds embedded in the video display?
I don't think this was a bandwidth issue. The new player only updates the video when you release the scroll bar. I appreciate the updates to the app, but the previous behavior was much better where it would continuously update the video as you scrolled. It would be great to get that behavior back, as well as a skip backward button.
My only other current request for the app would be PIP for live viewing cameras and for recorded videos.
I was intrigued by your suggestion so did some quick tests to see if I had the same problem.
I have access to cameras on my home network and my parents over the internet. Using the same SecuritySpy app on my iPhone, I can manually scrub through my local videos and see the feed keep up to date, with it showing a fast preview as I scroll either way.
When connecting to my parents cameras, the video feed can't keep up with my scrolling which I presume is still related to bandwidth given I had no issues on my home network.
Just in case SS versions make a difference, I upgraded my parents SS from 5.5.2 to 5.5.6, but the new version didn't help. Mine is on 5.5.4, and all was still ok after upgrading to the latest version.
Hi Ben,
Just following this up to see if you plan on including a skip back option fairly soon please? Every time I use the playback I really miss being able to quickly skip back to re-play what I was looking at. Manually trying to scroll using the slider is painful because there's no ability to slow down how quickly it moves. Even a 5 second skip back would be better than nothing, with the hope that customisable options will be available further ahead.
Kind regards,
Paul.
Hi Paul, yes, we're planning to add a skip-back button, but I can't promise when this will happen. I hope for now the slider is effective enough, if a little cumbersome with longer movies.
Thanks Ben!
PLEASE add the skip backward back again. I record in 1-hour segments and it is incredibly hard to go quickly hone in on the video segment of interest now that there is only a small skip forward. Unfortunately this was a big usability step backward when this was removed. Thank you for adding this back as soon as possible!!
Hi Ben, just following this up to see if you have any updates for the skip back option please?
Sorry, no progress on this yet. We are planning to add this when we are working on the next major update to the app.
