I have been using SecuritySpy for several years, and I paired it with HomeHelper some time ago to manage arming and disarming cameras based on the presence of my wife or me.

Today it is showing the triggers, but has lost all the actions associated with them. I believe this happened once before and I found something on-line about it. Either I did something I don't remember to fix it, or it came right by itself.

I haven't had a lot of time to troubleshoot, but I didn't find anything about the issue through Google and and it hasn't come right by itself after a number of reboots and taking the latest security update for Sequoia. Needless to say I don't remember what I did last time

I am running the latest update 6.17 of SecuritySpy on an M1 Mac mini with 8GB RAM. I have updated Sequoia to 15.7.3 earlier today (after HomeHelper lost the actions). The mini is dedicated to running SecuritySpy, HomeHelper and Sync Folders Pro to offload recordings to my NAS and I have 22 cameras active on a 32 camera license.

I don't want to have to recreate all the actions for my triggers because I know I didn't have to do that previously, and I haven't edited anything in HomeHelper for fear it will overwrite any possibility to recover the previous configuration. I'm hoping someone else has seen the issue and has a better memory than I do and knows how to recover the actions.

Sorry if this isn't the right category to post in - there isn't a HomeHelper one and Home Automation didn't look right when I checked the other content there.

This post is simply for fun and examples of what can be done through SecuritySpy video captures, with a little basic editing…

I live in the high desert of Arizona USA and just happened to catch some rare wildlife on a couple of my ranch cameras recently. It was a juvenile Mountain Lion that my game warden neighbor estimates to have been about five feet long and 110 pounds. My mind often thinks with a huge catalog of music, so I immediately had to weave audio into a short clip.

https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/zwv8oclved2rxa05tfvjc/BIG-Puddy-Cat.mp4?rlkey=hcao6hv4nfzn2ta4fk3no193b&dl=0

BTW, the cameras used were one Axis Q1951-E 35mm 30FPS thermal unit and one Axis Q6125-E PTZ model that run 24/7. My 32 camera network is managed with the latest version of SecuritySpy to date, Mac OS 15x, and on a CCTV dedicated Mac Studio M4 Max, 12-core, 36GB RAM with 80TB of storage via a ThunderBolt 4 enclosure.

I have a small warehouse/shop that I have been happily using SS for - but most of my cameras are re-used old Q-see 2mp bullet style, and they're getting a little long in the tooth - I've had one go out, so time to invest in some new hardware -

I have successfully used a Reolink Duo to cover the rear property line/parking access gate - but its overhead view, while good for seeing what's generally going on, is not ideal for the warehouse front. On the front I have a single gang box at each end of the building, about 15' above the ground. I have aimed these old bullet cameras at each other, so I have a cross view of the building, with the sidewalk and parking area - I have only armed the first couple feet away from the building, and even then get an awful lot of alerts -

So I purchased a couple Reolink RLC810As - figured they are a step up, and should give higher resolution. But in doing the initial setup, they offer a "corridor" mode - seems to switch the image 90d, so instead of offering 3840x2160, they offer 2160x3840 - so more vertical than horizontal, which seems ideal for both the front, as well as for the driveway alongside the building - but the multi view gives me -

view from Reolink in Corridor mode - just testing in the warehouse -

So you can sorta see the issue - I already have the doublewide back view, then the "corridor" view ( currently set as a test view in the warehouse) is just adding a lot of black screen to the multiview - suggestions and advice very welcome!!

And while I have you attention - any advice about hardware that mounts to a single gang box, and extends the camera out a distance so it can see more "back" at the wall? you may notice I have the same problem on the side, where my view is largely the gutter on the side of the building, but the front could use the same modifications. I'd also like to add to a box and raise a camera up above the building parapet, so I could "see" across the roof, if there are any suggestions -

Thanks in advance! Tad

Can SecuritySpy access a camera's local SD card? I am assuming that having the camera save footage to the SD card would provide the best quality since it doesn't rely on streaming and the network. Can SecuritySpy trigger the camera to record to its local storage along with streaming?

Second question, I can access the files through the camera's web interface, but is there a way to make the SD card available over the local network?

Many thanks for any assistance!

It's in a really hard to reach place, have to climb a ladder and then lean over some aquariums (if that goes bad the ER folks will have a good story to tell for years...)

If I do a factory reset, can I just then look for it with an IP search tool and find it on wifi without having to plug it in to ethernet? I really want to avoid taking it down. Or anything else to try first that I may not have thought of? Thx...

X4 is officially out and seems a huge improvement. C4 have almost caught up to maybe …2011. A big leap from where they were which was about 1994. :-) It's like the leap from DOS to MacOS.

The new UI allows for significant customization (at least compared to former C4 UI). Among other things is support for displaying streams (surveillance, programming, etc.) in a UI panel - either continuous or based on a trigger.

Has anyone looked at how this will work with SS? Will it require a SS specific widget?

I can think of a long list of desirable features in a SS widget :-)

Any thoughts or insights from others who have the same situation? Thanks

This always seems to happen when I'm not at home. As a result, I have to manually restart Security Spy. I believe I have it set up in the MAC to restart SS, but only after I login again. But I can't do this if I'm not there. Is there something else I could do? Thanks

Hello, I'm looking to eventually upgrade my Security Camera system that's currently using a standalone NVR system--I'm looking to ditch the NVR and take my camera system to the next level and I'm currently torn between Blue Iris and SecuritySpy. I consider myself an above-average person when it comes to technology and if I don't know something, I'll promptly take the time to learn it, so Blue Iris' learning curve or its more technical nature is not a concern for me personally. Apart from, what appears to be, a much better pricing structure for Blue Iris, why would one choose SecuritySpy over alternatives? What makes SecuritySpy worth the steep initial investment? Obvious answers like, "Mac preference" not withstanding, as I own both operating systems.

My second question is will there be a Black Friday Sale for SecuritySpy? As I currently have a 12-camera system and am looking to upgrade to 16 when I pull the trigger and make my move to either software.

The third question I have is why aren't there any videos showcasing the SecuritySpy software? I've tried scouring YouTube to no avail and I don't see many up to date guides providing detailed setups for new users with options, device settings, setup process, etc., why is this the case? Where are the tutorials, product demonstrations, etc.?

The fourth question I have is how is the AI, what potential features are on the horizon, and what makes SecuritySpy superior to its competition?

I’ve been a very happy user of SS for a number of years - currently have 3 systems, all working quite well. But I’ve been upgrading a few things ( new mini, couple new cameras, new router, misc ) and in the process have found a few things I’m wondering if they could be modified?

one is to take advantage of apples password manager so when accessing the system(s) on phone, ipad, atv, etc, you can just do a single log-in to the app, and all associated servers/passwords would auto-load, and even save user and password info when accessing each system.

the next is to allow for a double wide opening as an option in the multi-screen window. I’ve added a couple Reolink 180d cameras, which basically offers the view area of 2 adjoined cameras, so a single camera/view can capture a very wider area, plus only uses one camera license. They work now, but the image is squeezed down in a multi-camera view, but is expanded to its natural resolution when highlighted. If it could somehow be assigned a double-wide spot in multi-camera view, that’d be very nice.

There was something else, but it must have been really minimal as I can’t remember what it was at the moment - 😁
