How many USB 2.0 webcams can I use simultaneously?

This depends on the resolution and frame rate of the cameras, and the number of independent high-speed USB busses your Mac has. In general, we recommend you do not use more than one camera per bus, but if you lower the resolution of each camera, you should be able to use more than one. You can see how many USB busses your Mac has by going to "About This Mac" from the Apple menu, and clicking the "More Info" button.

How can I use SDI cameras in CaptureSync?

SDI (Serial Digital Interface) cameras can be used in CaptureSync using suitable input hardware from BlackMagic, for example their DeckLink PCIe cards (DeckLink Quad, DeckLink Studio, DeckLink Duo, DeckLink SDI, DeckLink Mini Recorder) or UltraStudio USB 3.0 and Thunderbolt devices (UltraStudio Mini Recorder, UltraStudio Express, UltraStudio SDI).

How can I use HDMI cameras in CaptureSync?

HDMI (High-Definition Multimedia Interface) cameras can be used in CaptureSync using suitable input hardware from BlackMagic, for example their Intensity PCIe, USB 3.0 or Thunderbolt devices (Intensity Pro, Intensity Shuttle, Intensity Extreme) or UltraStudio USB 3.0 or Thunderbolt devices (UltraStudio Pro, UltraStudio SDI, UltraStudio Express, UltraStudio Mini Recorder).

Will my network camera work with CaptureSync?

Most likely it will. CaptureSync supports all industry-standard formats (JPEG over HTTP, and JPEG/MPEG-4/H.264 over RTSP). SecuritySpy also supports the ONVIF protocol, which makes setting up any compliant device very easy. New network cameras and video servers are being released regularly and while we try to confirm support for new devices as they are released, there may be some that are not yet on our supported device list. If you don't see your camera on our official list of supported cameras, please email us to ask about support.

How can CaptureSync record the camera or screen of another Mac?

Firstly, on the other Mac, install our RemoteSight software.

On the CaptureSync Mac, go to the CaptureSync preferences and add a new network video device. Click the pop-up button to the right of the Address box, and you should see the RemoteSight computer listed there; select it. Then, select the RemoteSight option in the Device type list, and select Input 0 for the camera or 1 for screen capture.

Once you have added the RemoteSight video feed, you can add the corresponding audio feed under the Audio tab in the Preferences.

Can CaptureSync record the camera or screen of a Windows PC?

Yes, with the AbelCam webcam software for Windows. In AbelCam, the web server feature must be enabled as well as the Screen Capture option (if required). In CaptureSync, add a new network device and select the AbelCam option in the Device type list.

Why is QuickTime Player 7 required?

In order to play the movie files created by CaptureSync, QuickTime Player 7 is required because Apple have not yet implemented functionality in QuickTime X to play movie files that contain multiple video tracks. If you don't yet have QuickTime Player 7 installed when attempting to play such a file, Mac OS X will ask you if you want to download and install it. Alternatively, you can download and install QuickTime Player 7 manually.

Do you offer educational discounts for CaptureSync?

Yes, we offer educational discounts to students and staff at schools and universities. Please email us from an academic email address for instructions.
